Quiz Rules at the Village Home
Who – Team Quiz, no maximum number in a team but cost is £1 per person
Prizes – Beer and cash for winners and cash for runners up and sometimes 3rd and 4th dependent on numbers. All money taken is added up, money is taken for the beer and a contribution for the Snowball and the rest is then used as the cash prizes.
How – Quiz consists of a bonus round which will be on the reverse of your answer sheet. This could consist of anything from pictures, cryptic, anagrams, wordplay, dingbats or the dreaded numbers in what. This part of the quiz commences on receipt of your sheet and can be progressed as necessary during the main quiz.
The main quiz will be read out and consists of 25 questions on general knowledge. A point is awarded for each correct answer (or half if partly correct). Occasionally bonus points are available. For example; a year may be asked for appertaining to a particular question, or, for the regular Name the Year question(s), a point is awarded for an answer within 3 years plus a bonus point if exact. Any of these questions can be repeated on request up to the start of the Snowball.
The last part of the quiz is the Snowball round which consists of 5 questions that are more difficult than the main questions. If any team gets all the questions right then they win the “Snowball Pot” that has been contributed to accumatively each week from the general pot. These questions will be read out quicker than the others so participants should listen carefully, as they will not be repeated on completion. After question 5 is read out teams will only have 30 seconds to hand their papers in.
The Question Master marks all papers and their decision is final.
The overall winner is determined by the sum of the totals scored on the main quiz and the bonus round – the Snowball is counted separately. In the event of a 2 way draw a tie break ‘nearest to’ question will be used to establish first and second. In the event of more than 2 teams drawing, as many questions will be used as necessary, eliminating the team furthest away from the answer (higher or lower) each time until positions and a winner are established.
The Snowball can only be won by answering all the 5 questions correctly and fully. The Snowball will accumulate until it reaches £100 when it will be frozen and a reserve will start. If the reserve reaches £100 it will again be frozen but the main snowball questions will become multiple choice. The questions will initially be 4 possible answers but will reduce if it is not won down to 50/50 if necessary until it is won. In the event of a tie of 2 or more 3 ‘nearest to’ tie breaker questions will be asked where either a winner will be established or the furthest team eliminated and then a further question asked of the remaining teams.
